Grew newsletter from a few hundred to more than 10,000 subscribers.
Designed and executed a comprehensive newsletter transformation using modern tools and structured storytelling, achieving strong audience growth and engagement metrics above industry norms.

Five years ago, Semiconductor Research Corporation’s newsletter reached only a few hundred subscribers.
Today, it reaches more than 10,000 — and nearly 40% of them open it consistently.
That kind of growth didn’t happen by accident. It happened because we rethought the role the newsletter could play for SRC and the broader semiconductor research community.
Rather than continuing with reactive updates and isolated announcements, we built a deliberate publishing strategy. We established a consistent cadence and developed annual story arcs aligned with SRC’s corporate messaging themes. Each issue became part of a larger narrative about research leadership, workforce development, and long-term industry impact. An editorial calendar replaced last-minute content gathering. Planning created consistency. Consistency created quality. And quality built trust.
We also shifted how stories were sourced and told. Members of the SRC community were invited to share notable milestones — awards, honors, research breakthroughs, and special events. Instead of publishing brief submissions, our communications team crafted those updates into fully developed stories with a cohesive editorial voice. The result was a newsletter that felt polished and strategic while authentically celebrating the achievements of SRC researchers, university partners, and industry stakeholders. Community members saw their work elevated. Readers saw meaningful impact, not just activity.
Content breadth was intentional. Each issue featured a mix of research highlights, workforce development initiatives, and Technology Transfer successes. Over time, these recurring elements reinforced SRC’s mission and demonstrated how fundamental research translated into real-world semiconductor innovation. The newsletter became a vehicle for showing the full ecosystem at work — from lab discovery to industry application.
Growth was sustained through disciplined execution over five years. We modernized the tooling, streamlined production workflows, and implemented cross-channel list-growth efforts to expand reach. The strategy wasn’t about chasing vanity metrics; it was about building a trusted communication channel that stakeholders wanted to engage with.
The results speak clearly. Subscriber growth increased from a few hundred to more than 10,000. Average open rates hovered near 40%. In 2025, typical email open rates across industries range from approximately 21% to 43%, depending on the benchmark. Consistently performing near the top of that range reflects strong relevance, audience trust, and a content strategy that resonated with SRC’s community.
What began as a routine update evolved into a central storytelling platform for Semiconductor Research Corporation — strengthening relationships with researchers, universities, industry partners, and funders; clarifying mission impact; and expanding organizational reach in a measurable way.
The transformation wasn’t driven by frequency alone. It was driven by narrative discipline, community engagement, and a clear commitment to telling SRC’s story in a way that matched the scale and significance of its work in advancing semiconductor research.
